U19 Youth Championship: Maziya draws with Green Streets

Maziya leaves it late to salvage a draw against a resilient Green Streets side.

Moosa Azeem Hassan gave the lead to Green Streets in the 18th minute of the first half. Maziya kept pushing for the equalizer with both the teams going at each other. Mohamed Shazaan finally equalized for the Green boys in the 73rd minute.

Mohamed Shayan Saeed of Green Streets was named Man of the match.

In the post match press Maziya youth head coach, Ahmed Suzair said that:

“We left some of our important players for today’s starting as they joined the team late after Eid holidays. And team was facing fitness issues as we did not got proper time to train after Eid holidays due to unavailability of full squad”.

On the other hand, Green Street head coach, Ali said that:

“This is the very first time these young players playing in this ground. So, some of the players are new to this ground.”

Green Streets will play early favorites Eagles on the 31st while Maziya will meet New Radiant.

As for the tournament format, it will be played as a mini league of two rounds between the four participated teams this year. And the top two teams after two rounds of play, will face in a title deciding final.

According to the format, it will be a very tight schedule for the four teams. There will be only one day rest between the each game during the first round of play while there will be two days in between second round  matches for each team.

Unlike the last five years, this time FAM has taken a the decision to lower the age category from under 21 to under 19. Therefor this year and in the upcoming few years, Youth Championship will be targeted for under 19 players.
