Maldives national women’s football team lost their second match played against Korea, in Asian games 2018 held in Indonesia.

Maldives lost the match with the score of 0 – 8 against the world ranks 15 th position holding country Korea. Korea’s first goal was succeeded in the 24th minute of the first half by Ji Soyeon. Ji have been playing at England’s Chelsea since 2014. She was also titled as the best female football player in the year 2015 by PFA. In the 34th minute of the first half, Aminath Shamila from the Maldives team scored an own goal giving the Koreans their second goal. During the last minutes of the first half, Son Hwayeon and Mira Moon have scored two goals to Korea. First goal of the second half was attained by Mira Moon, while Son Hwayeon scored a hat-trick with two goals.

The final goal of the match was attained by Lee Nmee of the Korea team. With this success Korea have confirmed their place in the second round. While holding 5th place in the AFC women’s Cup in 2018, Korea has qualified for FIFA women’s world cup 2019. Four years ago Maldives has lost against Korea with the score of 0–13 during the Asian games in Korea. Maldives national women’s football team has improved their performance compared to the previous matches. Maldives lost their first match in Asian games 2018 against Indonesia by 0 – 6.

This score is the best of Maldives national women’s team so far. Lately the team have been improving their performance. They also played in the semifinals of the women’s SAFF championship 2016.
