Ali Ashfaq nets hat-trick as Aizawl have AFC Cup maiden to forget

As the saying goes age is just a number, Ali Ashfaq proved it was all true as the 32 year old skipper fired home a hat-trick against Indian champions Aizawl.

The north Indian side did draw first blood through Lalram Hmunmawia three minutes after the hour mark. Aizawl had two back to back efforts on goal saved by Imran but his second save fell right onto the path of Lalram who slotted the ball into the back of the net.

Ali Ashfaq fired home with his right foot five minutes before the break as the Blues made it all square. A much needed boost for the second half for Oscar Bruzon's men.

New Radiant started the second half on the upper hand and dominated play. Hmunmawia was sent off for bringing down second-half substitute Guillem Marti in the 74th minute and from there on there was no way back for the reds.

Hisam Saleem's cross was headed in by Ashfaq as it bounced off the ground, hit the bar and entered the net before Lalawmpuia could slap the ball back out but the referee had already given it as a goal.

Ashfaq then completed a perfect hat-trick as he blasted the ball with his left foot after Ali Fasir headed the ball down for the striker inside the box with five minutes to go.

This win means blues are top of the standings with maximum points from two games.
