Premier League goes on 15 day break to give time for National Team

Ooredoo Dhivehi Premier League has gone to it’s first break of the season. After this week’s matches, league action will be on hold in order to give time for national team to play Asian Cup qualifying match against Oman to be played on the 5th.
 
The new change in the AFC Asian cup format will see 24 teams compete in the Asian cup finals. countries that finished top in the Asian world cup second round gain automatic qualification while four of the highest placed runner-ups also gained qualification to UAE 2019.
 
Fourth placed nations in the World cup qualification like Maldives have to play in the AFC qualification third round. Maldives has been drawn in group D with Palestine, Oman and Bhutan. top two sides from each group will gain automatic qualification to Asian Cup. for Maldives qualification to UAE 2019 is going to be a uphill battle with Palestine and Oman in the group. Red snappers are most likely to finish third in the group ahead of Bhutan.
 
Maldives suffered a 3-0 home defeat against Palestine and won away from home in Bhutan by two goals. Next up for Maldives is a daunting task in Muscat.
 
The last match day before the break so some surprises. Maziya had to dig deep to secure a point against Thinadhoo to stay top of the league while TC were held to a draw by Milandhoo. Kudahuvadhoo suffered a slim defeat against Green Streets while New Radiant safe sailed to all three points against Maalhos thanks to Ali Ashfaq.
