Football Association of Maldives and Mahibadhoo Sports and Recreation Club have signed an Agreement to develop football in the island. The project "Atoll Project" would kick start a youth development and coaching courses in the island. The agreement was signed between officials of Mahibadhoo Sports and General secretary of the Football association.

 Mahibadhoo has produced some of the most exciting talents of Maldivian football with the likes of legendary goalkeeper Imran Mohamed and Striker Ahmed Thoriq (Tom) who is the current sitting Member in parliament for Mahibadhoo.

The island also host an state of the art full sized turf ground completed under the initiation of former president Abdullah Yameen Abdul Gayoom. The project was funded by the government and a tourism tycoon. 

Mahibadhoo Sports Club currently play in the second division of Maldivian football. Other the famous duo of Imran and Tom the island is also home of Maziya captain Asadullah Abdullah, Samooh Ali and former Maziya winger Mohamed Hussain Niyaz (bokuree) along with former blues and current JJ sports attacking mid Midhath Fahumee, Ahmed Nuhaad(guppe) and goalkeeper Mohamed Jazlan.
