Maldives under 16 boys team left for Iran to participate in the AFC Championships qualifying games.

Maldives are drawn in Group C with Iran, Afghanistan and Palestine. Maldives opening match will be against Iran on the 18th of September. Maldives second game will be played two days later against Afghanistan before playing Palestine on the 22nd September.

Maldives National team after a poor showing in the UEFA Assist Tournament in Addu, appointed Mohamed Nizam(Nizambe) as  head coach. Before travelling to Iran, the under 16 boys played a number of high profile friendly games including a friendly against Maziya Sports senior team. 

This is the second junior team traveling abroad as under 19 national team are already camped in Qatar ahead of SAFF Under 19 Championships.
