President of Football Association of Maldives Bassam Adheel Jaleel has met with the national team in Colombo last night. 

Maldives is scheduled to play their opening World Cup- Asian Cup qualifier away to Guam on the 5th of September before the home match against favorites China on the 10th in Male. The other teams in the group are Philippines and Syria. 

Maldives national team is in limelight for the wrong reasons since head coach Petar Segrt decided to drop Maldives captain Ali Ashfaq(Dhagandey) giving contradictory reasons. Segrt has set a target to qualify for the FIFA World Cup and giving it one of the reasons dropping the inspirational captain Dhagandey saying he will be 'too old for the next world cup'.
