Chairman of New Radiant Sports Club Mohamed has resigned from his position last night.

Former colonel of Maldives National Defense Force Mohamed Ziyad, informed the club of his resignation via letter. He mentioned there being others interested in the position of club’s chairman as one of his reasons for resignation. He also mentioned that the main reason why the club has faced difficulties and issues is due to sponsor payments not being made by the sponsors.

In his letter he mentioned that when he took the position of chairman, there were court cases against the club and also many pending payments to players in the form of salaries and payments that had to be made to other companies. He mentioned along with the board he decided to tackle most of the issues and as a result when the first year ended there were no pending payments that had o be made.

He said that feat was achieved by spending some of his own money as well and he proudly noted the club won all trophies from 2017’s Premier League to 2018’s Male’ League.

With all those successes they hoped to start 2018 financially stable via the payments from the government and sponsors. However, unexpectedly the sponsors didn’t make payments and the club started facing financial issues midway through the year. Problems were added when separate payments that were agreed to be made by other parties also wasn’t made which caused in some star players not receiving the salary.

Concluding his letter he said due to his work life and personal life he has to spend much of his time abroad and he isn’t able to give much attention to the club. Due to that he feels that as there are other parties interested in the position of club’s chairman, he resigns as chairman and as the club’s board member.

Since last year, many players have reported issues of their salaries not being paid by the club. However, in this January New Radiant was suspended out of the blue by FAM’s executive committee as New Radiant along with other clubs were getting ready to request to hold an extraordinary congress against the FAM’s executive committee. The club says the suspension of the club is a grudge held by the association against the club as according to the club there are two clubs in the Premier League with salary issues and that the other club has history and more long overdue issues that are still pending a reply. New Radiant is one of the country’s most successful clubs.
