What we saw from the Maldives Football Awards does not match with what we saw in the SAFF Suzuki Cup.

Today we saw what looked like the most prestigious football awards show in the Maldives. It all looked very good. One thing comes to mind however. Ali Ashfaq(Dhagandey) scored 42 goals this season? Won the Male’ League with New Radiant and then moved to TC and won the Premier League for TC Sports?

Meanwhile we needed a toss of a coin to advance to the semi-final because we lacked fire power in the group stages of SAFF Cup? Something just doesn’t add up!

I know! The SAFF Suzuki Cup is history! We won. We are the champions. But still, this question needs to be asked!

Ahmed Rizvan holds joint world record for scoring most hattricks in consecutive matches? Where was he? Was the 22 year old striker too old for the next World Cup! This is unbelievable.

Maldives Most Promising player is Mohamed Jailam(Oggy) apparently. I read earlier that he was even the under 19 captain. He debuted in the Premier League at the age of 16?!

The SAFF games winning heroes are great, no disrespect intended for them, but my point is did they get the National Team selection wrong or did they give the awards to wrong people?

Surely technical people apparently voted for the winners of the awards, maybe they are wrong. But the King Ashfaq scored 42 goals this season. I don’t know which of the many contradictory reasons that were given is to be believed. In football, the number of goals doesn’t lie. He scored those 42 goals because he is still the best.

Meanwhile most of the public dismissed Ashfaq as a ‘has been’ because some people say he is not disciplined or whatever else they had to say. BoalhaMV cartoonist gave a very good reply. But the best reply is by the King himself. He replied with those incredible goals. He somehow convinced pretty much all the technical people who voted in the Maldives Football awards to give him ‘The Best Player Award’.

Let me end this by asking this important question again. ‘Did they get the National Team selection wrong or did they give the awards to wrong people’.
